Disk Space
This is how much online storage you are allowed to use for your website, e-mail, scripts, etc.
Monthly Bandwidth
This is the amount of traffic that can visit your site in a month. Traffic is generated by a computer requesting an object from your site, such as a picture.
Domain Names
A domain name is the way that most people will find you site. "paulnet.net" is our domain name.
Sub Domains
A way of making a separate site but without getting another domain name. An example would be "helpdesk.paulnet.net"
POP3/IMAP E-mail Accounts
These are e-mail accounts "@yourdomain.com." POP3 accounts download mail to your computer and delete the messages off the server, but IMAP accounts leave an updated set of messages on your computer as well as on the server.
E-mail Forwarders and Autoresponders
E-mail forwards allow you to create a "virtual" e-mail account. An example: sales@yourdomain.com forwards all mail to the account me@yourdomain.com. An autoresponder allows you to automatically generate a response to the sender when they send mail to a specific e-mail account.
CGI-BIN
This is a place on the server where you are allowed to store your CGI scripts. PaulNet Communications recommends that you use PHP instead of CGI scripts to save on processor load.
PHP
PHP is another scripting language. Common web applications powered by PHP include forums and formmail. We recommend PHP because it is less resource intensive.
MySQL Databases
MySQL is a type of database commonly used on the Internet. You will most likely see PHP and MySQL used together to create powerful web applications.
Password Protected Directories
By using .htaccess you are able to restrict access to certain areas of your website.
Custom DNS
Allows you to edit your DNS entries for your domain.
